There’s a new hashtag trending on Twitter that’s changing the conversation about what it means to be Latina.
The hashtag, #HispanicGirlsUnited, took off after user Joyce Santeliz first added it to a tweet about how unfairly Hispanic girls are depicted in the media, according to TakePart.
Since then, Latinas everywhere have been using it to share their experiences. Some are using it to shut down tired stereotypes, and highlight the racism and discrimination they face every day.
Even Gina Rodriguez chimed in with an awesome message celebrating unity and the success of all Latinas.
#HispanicGirlsUnited because there is room for us all, to live out our dreams, to be powerful and to contribute to each other’s successes!
