Cuban actress Elizabeth Peña has passed away at age 55 on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Best known for her roles in Lone Bamba, Jacob’s Ladder, and Rush Hour, it was her role in Lone Star starring alongside actor Chris Cooper that established her international acting career. Recently, she starred as Gloria’s mother on Modern Family and had just completed work on El Rey Network’s newest series, Matador.
While the cause of her death are still unknown, her manager said that she died at Mount Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles of natural causes with an undisclosed illness.
The New Jersey-born actress is survived by her husband Hans Rolla, his daughter Fiona, and son Kaelan.
We send our deepest condolences to Peña’s family and friends during this difficult time. May she R.I.P.
