Carolina Herrera is not a fan of Kim Kardashian and Beyonce’s style.
The Venezuelan-American designer spoke to the Washington Post about the red carpet trend of wearing a name dress.
“[Designers think] it’s so modern to be naked or almost naked, she said. “They think it’s going to attract younger people if they do those dresses. No!”
Herrera used the 2015 Met Gala as a primary example of the trend gone wrong. “They’re supposed to be fashion icons and they’re not wearing anything,” she said. “It’s an obsession now.”
At the Gala, the naked dress was worn in variations by Jennifer Lopez (in Atelier Versace), Kim Kardashian (in custom Roberto Cavalli) and Beyoncé (in Givenchy).
“The almost naked! Oh God! They’re trying to get people to pay attention to them, said Herrera. “In life, there should be a little mystery.”
So, what does fashion mean to the iconic fashion designer? “For me, fashion is about originality, sophistication and beauty,” she said. “I’m not in the fashion business; I’m in the beauty business.”
