Drinking your coffee every morning is how most people jumpstart their day. But how about using caffeine to bring life to your hair?
Caffeine is already one of the biggest beauty trends for 2015. It’s used in some of the best body scrubs to exfoliate dead skin cells and can be found in many skin creams that promise to brighten and tighten your skin.
Now, scientists have recently discovered another possible benefit: It might help bulk up thinning hair by promoting hair growth.
For the study, scientists treated weakened hair follicles with a caffeine solution, the speed of hair growth increased by up to 25 percent, says Tobias U. Fischer, a dermatologist at the University of Lübeck in Germany. Caffeine activates a growth factor that helps prevent hair cells from dying or going into a dormant state, he explains.
There is a catch, however. Sadly, you can’t just sip a latte and expect to grow Beyonce’s voluminous hair on your head. Instead, it takes a special treatment with the optimal formulation (such as Plantur 39 Caffeine Treatment for women), which is currently only available in Europe. Here’s hoping it arrives to the U.S. soon! [Allure]
