Sophia and Jackson were the two most popular baby names of the year, according to the parenting website BabyCenter.
Sophia has remained the most popular girl in pre-school for six years in a row (In fact, it’s the most popular baby name in the world!), and Jackson has been the must-have name for three straight years.
According to BabyCenter, the top names tend to be pretty stable for three to five years. “Sophia has been a powerhouse for six years, thanks to the variety of spelling options and the multi-ethnic, multi-language appeal of the name,” Linda Murray, editor in chief of BabyCenter, said in an announcement. “I predict Jackson’s popularity will be more fleeting. We’ll likely have a new number-one boys’ name next year.”
Emma and Olivia took second and third place for the fourth straight year, while Madison out ranked Madelyn to crack the top 10.
As for the boys, the list is not that different from previous years, with Logan and Jacob simply swapping spots in ninth and 10th places. Do note, that the list combines names that are spelled different ways but sound the same, so Jackson also counts Jaxon, and Sophia also counts Sofia.
